Important actions to take before upgrading to version 17

Step 1 : Remove all instances of existing Position Sizing drawing tool

It is advisable to create a new workspace and ensure there is no existing Position Sizing drawing, version 16, on any chart.

If you do not remove all Position Sizing drawing tools from your charts, you will receive this warning message in the NinjaTrader log window.

Failed to restore Drawing Tool ‘NinjaTrader.NinjaScript.DrawingTools.ASCENDO.PositionSizing1Target’. Most likely (a) the implementation changed or (b) one or more properties have been renamed or removed or (c) the custom assembly which implements this Drawing Tool no longer is there.

To confirm that there are no remaining Position Sizing drawing tools on your chart, you can check the Workspace XML file. This file is located at: C:\Users\Your Username\Documents\NinjaTrader 8\workspaces. The file is named after your workspace name with a .xml extension.

In the example below, the workspace was saved as Untitled.

You can open the .xml file with the default viewer which is Microsoft Edge.
Once the file is opened, use the shortcut CTRL+F or select Find on Page from the menu. Search for PositionSizing you will find the instances of the drawing tools and you will know from which chart. You can then open the chart for that instrument and either manually delete all instances of the Position Sizing drawing tool or simply select the option “Remove All Drawing Objects” from the drawing tool menu.

Repeat this process for all charts and instruments found.

Step 2 : Save your Default Templates for all Position Sizing tools

You will need to recreate your default template for all Position Sizing drawing tools (i.e. from 1 target to 5 targets) once the version 17 is installed. It is therefore recommended to take screenshots of your current default parameters to help you configure the new version with the same parameters.

Step 3 : Upgrade to version 17

Once you have removed all instance of the Position Sizing drawing tool, you can upgrade to the version 17 from the Control Center window by selecting Tools then Import then NinjaScript Add-On… and select the version 17 zip file you downloaded.

In the Ninjatrader Control Center window, click on “Tools”, select ‘Import’, then click on ’NinjaScript Add-On’

Within the “Import” File Explorer window, navigate to the location where you saved the downloaded zip file of the ASCENDO product. Select the zip file by clicking on it, then click on Open.

This warning popup window is just reminding you to only install add-ons from trusted sources.

Just click ‘OK’ to keep installing.

You will get a notification there is already a version of the Position Drawing tool install so you need to confirm you want to overwrite the existing version with the new one.

This Import popup window advise you the installation was successful but you need to restart NinjaTrader
.
Click ‘OK’ to continue then restart NinjaTrader.

Step 4 : Recreate your Hot Keys

After having restarted NinjaTrader, you need to re-create the Hot Keys (keyboard shortcut).
If you do not re-create your Hot Keys and you use the previously created Hot key, you will get this error message:

Drawing Tool: failed to create instance of NinjaScript ‘NinjaTrader.NinjaScript.DrawingTools.ASCENDO.PositionSizing1Target’ – type not found

Step 5 : Recreate the default templates for each Position Sizing drawing tool

Refer to the screenshots you took in step 2 to recreate the default parameters for each number of targets you use.

You are now ready to use the new version 17.
