How to update Extended Rectangle to version 8

The version 8 introduces a new license validation system and redesigned properties that are more intuitive and easier to use. However, this means your existing default templates will need to be recreated.

Step 1: Install the License Manager

The ASCENDO License Manager validates your product licenses and must be installed before using any ASCENDO products.

Note: If you’ve already installed the License Manager, skip to Step 2.

Otherwise, follow these instructions to install it.

Step 2: Save your Default Templates for all Extended Rectangle types

You’ll need to recreate your default templates for all Extended Rectangles drawing tools (Upper wick, High to Low, etc.) after installing version 8.

1. Open each Extended Rectangle drawing tool you currently use
2. Access the properties window for each tool
3. Take clear screenshots of all your current default parameters
4. Save these screenshots in an easily accessible folder

These screenshots will help you quickly configure version 8 with your preferred settings.

Step 3: Save your Hot Keys

You’ll need to recreate the hot keys (keyboard shortcuts) for all Extended Rectangles types after the upgrade.

1. Open the NinjaTrader Control Center window
2. Select Tools → Hot Keys → Chart
3. Locate all your hot keys for Rectangle from …
4. Take screenshots of each hot key configuration
5. Save these screenshots alongside your template screenshots

Step 4: Remove all existing Extended Rectangles drawings

To avoid errors after the upgrade, remove all existing drawings from your charts before upgrading.

1. Create a new workspace in NinjaTrader
2. Remove all Extending Rectangle drawings from your charts
3. Save this clean workspace

Note: If you skip this step, you may see the following errors in the NinjaTrader log window:

Failed to restore Drawing Tool ‘NinjaTrader.NinjaScript.DrawingTools.ASCENDO.[rectangle type]’. Most likely (a) the implementation changed or (b) one or more properties have been renamed or removed or (c) the custom assembly which implements this Drawing Tool no longer is there.

Step 5: Uninstall the old version

1. Open the NinjaTrader Control Center window
2. Select Tools → Remove NinjaScript Assembly…
3. Select ASCENDO_ExtendingRectangle from the list
4. Click Remove
5. Restart NinjaTrader when prompted

Step 6: Install the new version

1. Open the NinjaTrader Control Center window
2. Select Tools → Import → NinjaScript Add-On…
3. In the Import File Explorer window, navigate to where you saved the product zip file
4. Select the product zip file and click Open
5. Follow any on-screen prompts to complete the installation
6. Restart NinjaTrader if required

Step 7: Recreate your Hot Keys

1. Open the NinjaTrader Control Center window
2. Select Tools → Hot Keys → Chart
3. Using the screenshots from Step 2, recreate each hot key configuration
4. Verify each hot key works as expected

Step 8: Recreate your Default Templates

For each rectangle type:

1. Draw a new Extended Rectangles drawing tool
2. Open its properties window
3. Using the screenshots from Step 2, configure each tool with your preferred default parameters
4. Save as the Default Template for that drawing type
